Let’s first understand what medical insurance for foreigners in Ukraine is. Medical insurance for non-residents is one of the types of voluntary personal insurance that provides an opportunity to receive monetary compensation from the insurance company for medical services received in case of illness or accident. Such expenses can be: payment of an ambulance, inpatient treatment, necessary diagnostic procedures, purchase of medicines, etc. Reimbursement of expenses is carried out within the framework of the selected insurance program, and exclusively on the basis of state and departmental medical institutions.

 

The contract of voluntary health insurance is a necessary document for foreigners who are going to visit Ukraine under the following conditions:

  • when issuing a visa
  • when entering an educational institution or employment
  • tourist or guest visit
  • transit entry
  • obtaining or extending a temporary residence permit

 

What are the requirements for health insurance policies for foreign citizens?

To issue a temporary residence permit:
The insured amount must be at least 30,000 euros;
The insurance is valid for the entire period of validity of the permit.

To apply for a visa:
The insured amount must be at least 30,000 euros;
The insurance is valid for the entire duration of the visa.

For other cases:
The insured amount must be at least 30,000 euros;
The insurance is valid for the entire period of the foreigner’s visit.

 

Is it possible to conclude an insurance contract for a license for 13 months?
According to the Law on Insurance, the maximum period of validity of the insurance contract is one year. There are cases when the State Migration Service of Ukraine requires foreign citizens to have an insurance policy valid for 13 months. In such cases, we suggest issuing two insurance contracts for 12 months and 1 month. Which gives a total of 13 months of continuous health insurance.

 

What medical services are provided under this insurance program?

  • Emergency medical care, including in case of coronavirus;
  • Urgent inpatient care, including for coronavirus;
  • Costs related to expulsion/deportation of a foreigner for improper fulfillment (non-fulfillment) of obligations.

 

Is it possible to draw up a health insurance contract for a foreigner from abroad?
Yes of course. The insurance policy can be concluded online, using the service: medinsurance.pro. The entire registration procedure will not take you more than 3 minutes. The electronic policy has the same legal force as the paper version. If a person submits documents to the consulate of Ukraine in any country in the world, it is enough to attach his electronic policy (pdf file) to the application form. When crossing the border, it is enough to show the insurance from the phone screen.
