The whole Kolodiazhne – Kovel district of the Volyn region, is known primarily for the literary and memorial museum of Lesia Ukrainka (Str. Lesia Ukrainka, 53). The museum was founded in 1949. on the territory of the estate, where Lesya Ukrainka spent her childhood and youth.

In May 1882, the Kosachi family moved from Lutsk to the village of Well. The family lived in a house that was called big among themselves. Lesi’s younger sisters and brothers were born here. The children were growing up, so in 1890 a house was built for Lesya on the estate

Both in sunny weather and on moonlit nights, the house seemed to glow with its white walls, which is why it was called “white”. A solarium was built for Lesya on the roof of the veranda.
The pink room in Lesya Ukrainka’s house was both a bedroom and a study. In front of the windows there is a desk, stationery, a vase for flowers, two postcards, a secret book, a cup.

On the right – a shelf, on the shelves are works of writers, copies of magazines, works on history, philosophy.
To the left of the door is a bed made of mahogany, covered with a white bedspread, on the bed is a quilted towel. A necklace, cufflinks, and a ribbon are on the dressing table.

Blue room, living room. On the left – the fireplace, near which Lesya wrote, rested. A large part of the room is occupied by a grand piano. The center of the room is occupied by an oval mahogany table covered with a quilted linen tablecloth.

In 1896, the construction of the “gray” house (father’s house) began, the windows and shutters of which were painted gray, hence its name. The house has three rooms, a kitchen, two verandas.
Kosachi loved Kolodiazhne very much and expressed their feelings more than once in letters to friends:

The well is, in fact, at home, and the rest, it’s all so-so – by the way. For our whole family, this apartment (Kyiv, 97 Saksaganskoho str.) was not our “home”, it used to be in Kolodyazhny, while we lived there as a whole family, and then everything was temporary, random and not our own.
