Synevyr National Nature Park (Hungarian: Szineveri Nemzeti Park) is located in Mizhhirsky district Zakarpattia Oblast.

In 1974, a landscape reserve of national significance Synevyrske Ozero” was organized, and on January 5, 1989, a park with a total area of more than 40,000 hectares was created. The name of the park comes from the name of the largest lake in Zakarpattia Lake Synevyr, which is located on its territory and occupies an area of about 7 hectares.

Synevyr Lake is located at an altitude of 989 m above sea level. m. m. has a maximum depth of 22 m. The lake was formed as a result of a powerful landslide about 10,000 years ago, as a result of which a dam was formed, which completely blocked the valley, which led to the filling of the basin with water from mountain streams.

In the middle of the lake there is a small island that resembles the pupil of an eye. This is where the popular name of the lake comes from – Sea Eye. If desired, the island can be reached by raft.

According to legend, the picturesque lake was formed from the tears of the count’s daughter Xin at the place where her beloved, a simple Verkhovyna shepherd Vyr, was killed by order of the count.

On one bank of the lake, an observation deck designed by architect Yuriy Solomin has been built, and on the other bank rises a 13-meter-high sculptural composition “Sin and Vyr”, carved in 1984 from mahogany by sculptors Ivan Brovda and Mykhailo Sanych.

There are trout, goliath and a large number of frogs in the lake.
The park also includes the well-known upland oligotrophic swamps of Glukhanya and Zamshatka, tracts of Kantina, Pessya and Kvasovets.
The natural conditions of the park are typical for the Carpathian mountain massif – Gorgan. The highest peaks here are Strymba (1719 m) and Negrovets (1707 m).

All types of relief are represented on the territory of the park – from flat to valley. The climate varies from moderately humid in the valleys to cold and humid in the highlands. The average temperature in July is about + 13 ° C, in January – minus 4-6 ° C. Significant precipitation is characteristic.

With the assistance of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, it is planned to create a specialized brown bear rehabilitation center in the Synevyr National Nature Park. The brown bear population in Ukraine is about 300 individuals, most of which is concentrated in the Ukrainian Carpathians.

For fans of active recreation, two new ecological trails have been laid in the “Synevyr” NPP: “Krasny Tract – Lake Synevyr” and “Gedeshova – Wild Lake“. In total, there are already three ecological, two scientific and educational trails and eight tourist routes in the “Synevyr” NPP.

Festival of ethnic music “Trembites are calling to Synevyr”

Since 2001, the “Synevyr” National Nature Park has been holding the annual ethnic music festival “Trembites are calling to the Synevyr”. The best amateur folklore and professional groups of the region and Ukraine are involved in the festival. Each village council of the Mizhhirskyi district opens an exhibition of decorative and applied art products, folk songs and kolomyikas characteristic of this area are performed to the accompaniment of musicians. As part of the festival, the charity event “Every child has a family!”, aimed at developing a network of family-type children’s homes and foster families, is being held.

Not far from the “Synevyr” NPP, in the Ozeryanka tract at the mouth of the Black River, there is the world’s only Forest and Rafting Museum, created on the basis of a mid-19th century dam. On its territory there are unique exhibits related to the history of wood processing and the profession of bokorashi (wood cutters). Unfortunately, the floods of 1998 and 2000 partially destroyed the museum, and the dam was completely destroyed. It should be noted that you will have to walk part of the way to the museum (about 4 km).
