Egypt. Temple of Sobek and Haroeris in Kom-Ombo

Kom-Ombo is a city in upper Egypt, situated on the right bank of the Nile, about midway between Aswan and Luxor. The city is home to one of the most famous ancient temples in Egypt, the Temple of Sobek and Haroeris, which was built during the Ptolemaic period. The temple was built on the site of an earlier temple that was destroyed by an earthquake. It was built on a high level to protect it from the floods of the Nile.

The Temple of Sobek and Haroeris was carved into the rock and is one of the few temples in Egypt where you can see images of the two deities together. Sobek was the god of crocodiles, and Haroeris was the god of the falcon. Particularly interesting are the images of crocodiles and falcons that can be seen on the walls of the temple. In addition, the walls of the temple depict scenes from the lives of Egyptian gods and pharaohs, as well as medical instruments and tools used in ancient times.

The temple consists of two symmetrical parts, each of which is dedicated to one of the gods. It has a huge number of halls and sanctuaries, as well as a small museum where you can see the artifacts found in the temple during its restoration.
