At the beginning of the 15th century in Lviv, the brewery craft shop began to actively develop, which marked the beginning of brewing in the city, and since 1533, brewing was regulated by a royal decree.

The monasteries greatly contributed to the development and improvement of brewing, because it was the educated monks who had the opportunity to read ancient books and find age-tested recipes and methods of brewing. With other gender 17th century Count Stanislav Potocki gave the Jesuit monks the right to build a brewery in the Kraków suburb of Lviv, Kleparov, “so that they could brew their own beer well,” and already in 1715, the first industrial brewery began operating in Kleparov.

Beer was famous for its good taste and became a favorite drink both on the territory of the state and gained popularity throughout Europe, because for it they used spring water, high-quality hops and barley malt of the highest grade and the perfect production technology for those times.

The Lviv Brewery turned into one of the most powerful beer producers of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and in the middle of the 19th century. entered the top three breweries. The high quality of the products was evidenced by the fact that the beer did not lose its taste even after being transported over long distances. After the Jesuit Order was stripped of its privileges and estates, the right to brew beer was first given to private owners, and then to the Lviv Joint-Stock Union of Breweries, but even in such conditions the best brewing traditions were preserved. Famous Lviv beers of that time were Bawar, Porter Imperial, Exportowe.

The quality of Lviv beer was not shaken even by the Soviet authorities, and the products of OJSC “Kolos” were already considered the best in the Soviet Union. Such types of beer as “Lvivske” and “Zhygulyvske” were delivered to the table of Kremlin officials almost every day, and passengers were treated on board international air and sea flights.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the company experienced not the best times, but thanks to the actions of the management and the involvement of an investor in 1999 – the Scandinavian company Baltic Beverages Holding ABV, more than 35 million US dollars were invested in Lviv Brewery at the initial stage of cooperation, which made it possible to modernize production, improve working conditions, improve the price policy, improve the qualifications of employees (Scandinavian Brewing School in Denmark, Branding School in Orkla (Norway) and in prestigious educational institutions of Ukraine). Today, “Lviv Brewery” is among the seven most powerful enterprises in the beer market of Ukraine.
