In this post, we will separately tell about the hotels that we shot on our trip to Switzerland. We traveled to Switzerland from Germany from Memmingen in a rented car . You can read about how we rented a car in our post “Car rental in Germany. Rental experience in Memmingen.“. We spent 5 nights in Switzerland, in three hotels, and on the way back we stopped for one night in Austria, but we wanted to tell you how you can plan your route and not spend all your money on hotels, as you yourself understand that the prices in Switzerland are quite high.
Route.
Our journey started from Allgäu Airport in the city of Memmingen. Here we immediately rented a car from the Cuddy rental company, you can read about it here and set off through Austria and Liechtenstein to Switzerland. I will write about this route separately, but in this post I would like to focus on hotels. There were 3 main criteria that fully covered ibis hotels from the all.accor hotel chain. The first, of course, is the price, they turned out to be the cheapest and there were always places available, we only booked one hotel in Lucerne from home, and all others on the way. The second is the availability of parking, as we were traveling by car, which was rented, and we didn’t want to leave it anywhere, or look for a place, or figure out how to pay. The third is the availability of breakfasts, as for breakfasts at ibis hotels, we had no doubts, they were always delicious and varied. Finally, there is a 24-hour reception desk.

ibis budget Luzern City
Location
The Ibis Budget Luzern City is a 15-minute walk from Lucerne Central Train Station, the Old Town and Lake Firwaldstädt. As practice shows, grocery stores at the station are open until late, so we checked in and walked 15 minutes to the station to buy something for dinner. And most importantly, you can reach the city center on foot, and this is a minus of unnecessary costs for transport or parking. Also, the Brünigstrasse bus stop (route 4) is located right next to the hotel. From here you can get to the railway station without transfers. There is also a supermarket nearby.

Number
Air-conditioned rooms with flat-screen cable TV and free Wi-Fi. The rooms are clean and bright, there is a desk and a chair. There was a double bed in our room, and a bed for a child on top, we have already met this concept of rooms and it will be in all the ibis hotels we have taken in Switzerland. The bathroom is not large, in fact it is a shower cabin, the toilet is separate.

Breakfast
Daily breakfast buffet. We immediately bought breakfast for the entire stay, there was a discount for a child. Breakfasts are worth buying right away, in any case, it is cheaper than in any cafe nearby. The selection is very good, I would like to mark my own baked goods. Any ibis hotel has access to hot water, so you can always get hot water, make tea, steam dry dishes, or make coffee in a thermal cup before going for a walk.
By the way, from the features, you have to boil the eggs yourself, it’s an interesting idea, you choose how long the egg should be boiled, next to it there is an instruction for how many minutes you need to boil it to get the desired result.
The cost of breakfast at the hotel is: adult 14 CHF, children – 12 CHF.

Parking
The parking lot is not big, but it is there. There is a limited number of covered parking spaces available and there is not a lot of space near the hotel. The hotel does not reserve seats and does not care that you did not have enough of them. At first we tried to park somewhere on top, but we couldn’t get anywhere. We still decided to check the underground parking, which you can get to by first getting a number and a parking card. We were lucky, as there was only one place left, so we all stood for two days and did not leave the parking lot.
As everywhere in Switzerland, parking is paid and it does not matter that you are staying in a hotel. The cost is 19 CHF per day.

Features
- Check-in from 15:00. Guests are required to show identification and credit card upon check-in. Check-out before 12:00.
- At check-in you have to pay a tax, 9 CHF per room.
- The lock code on the front door is the reservation number without the dots.
- This property is Travel Proud certified, so you can be absolutely sure of their hospitality.
The advantage of arriving in the evening, because in the morning with new energy, you can explore the city of Lucerne, and it is fantastic, be sure to read our post and visit this city.
On the second day, we checked out and went to Lake Thun and visited the city of Thun. There are fantastic views along the way and the lake itself, and Tun itself is worth a visit. Then we calculated the time so that we could get to Zurich by the evening, where we also booked the ibis hotel for two nights. On the way to Zurich, we made it to the world-famous chocolate factory Lindt & Sprüngli Chocolateria. Therefore, as you will follow our route, expect that before settling on the road you can stop by the factory, as it is located on the outskirts of the city.

After enjoying chocolate, we arrived at the hotel in the evening. The same principle as in Lucerne, there is an underground parking with one difference that it was bigger and there was enough space.
ibis budget Zurich City West
Location
Ibis Budget Zurich City West is located in the trendy Zurich West district, a 10-minute public transport ride from the city center and Zurich Main Train Station. Traditionally, it takes 30-40 minutes to the city center on foot, a little less, if you take the Swiss National Museum as a guide, which is worth visiting, it is without discussion. If you don’t want to spend money on transport or look for parking, which is simply not available in the center, then rent a car that takes up to an hour to walk one way.

Number
The rooms are generally compact and include the essentials such as a comfortable bed, a private bathroom with a shower, which is actually just a walk-in shower, a separate toilet, a desk, a chair and a TV. The bed is the same concept as in Lucerne, a double bed and a bed for a child on top. Everything is compact and comfortable, this is an ideal room for those who travel. Wireless Internet access is available throughout the hotel free of charge.

Breakfast
I had the impression that the hotel was empty, that’s why there were no people at breakfast. Unfortunately, the pastries were not fresh, but everything else, like everywhere, in sufficient quantity. Ham, cheese, eggs, yogurts, jams. Everything seems to be available, but it looked more modest than the others, although I understand that the set plus minus is the same. In any case, you will not remain hungry. Breakfast can be ordered with a room reservation, or bought separately at the hotel itself.
The price of breakfast at the hotel is: adult 15 CHF, under 12 years – 12 CHF, children 6-11 years – 6 CHF, children 0-5 years – free.

Parking
It’s beautiful and sad at the same time. The parking lot is nice and big, I think there will be enough space for everyone, before I wrote above, I had the impression that the hotel was empty, so we easily found a place. When you register, you are given a pass and you can use it as you like during your stay. What is sad, as you probably already understood, is the cost, 25 CHF per day, this is the most expensive parking lot we have ever rented in Switzerland.

Features
- Check-in from 15:00. Check-out before 11:00.
- At the hotel, you have to pay a tax of 5 CHF per room.

ibis budget Winterthur
Location
The Ibis Budget Winterthur is located in the business district. The city center and museums can be reached by public transport in 5 minutes or on foot in 20 minutes. Winterthur Train Station is 700 meters away.

Number
Air-conditioned rooms with free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV with cable channels. Each room has a desk and a bathroom with a large shower and a separate toilet. Ibis Budget Winterthur also provides rooms for guests with reduced physical abilities.

Breakfast
A restaurant for two ibis hotels, including the budget, the restaurant is bright and beautiful, perhaps we liked it the most. Everything was also available, a large selection of fresh pastries and fruits. Pâtés and cheeses were delicious.
The cost of breakfast at the hotel is: CHF 15 per adult.

Parking
Located in front of the hotel. Upon registration, a pass is issued, which you can use during the period of stay without restrictions. The cost is CHF 8 per day.

Features
- Check-in from 15:00 – 00:00. Check-out before 12:00.
- At the hotel, you have to pay a tax of 5 CHF per room.

OEKOTEL Hohenems
Location
The guest house OEKOTEL Hohenems is located on the E60 road, which is a direct road straight to Memmingen. Near the hotel is a bp gas station with cheap fuel, it seems that people come here from Germany and Switzerland to fill up, the queue was quite long.

Number
All rooms at the hotel are fitted with a seating area, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels and a private bathroom with a shower and free toiletries. Hotel rooms are equipped with bed linen and towels. Free Wi-Fi is available.

Breakfast
Buffet breakfast is included in the price of accommodation, it’s the coolest thing. To be honest, there were no special expectations, but I really liked the breakfast, not a bad assortment, everything is available, tasty and fresh. A big plus was that breakfast starts at 06:00, which is very convenient when you plan to leave early.

Parking
There is a large free parking lot in front of the hotel. We just put it in front of the windows and that’s it. The parking lot is not guarded.
Features
- Check-in from 14:30 – 21:00. Check-out before 10:00.
- The property offers the following services and entertainment options (additional fees may apply): Tour or lesson about local culture, bicycle rental.
